Archaeological Institute of America: Westchester Society

The 2011 - 2012 schedule of programs is available on the Programs page of this web site.

ABOUT US:

The Westchester Society of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) is a non profit organization devoted to expanding knowledge and appreciation of early cultures through an array of activities and public programs.   It is one of more than 100 chapters of the Archaeological Institute of America which is North America's oldest and largest organization devoted to the world of archaeology.  For information about our national Institute, its publications, tours and activities including the journals Archaeology, American Journal of Archaeology, and Dig, please go to the national web site:  http://www.archaeological.org/

The AIA Westchester Society was founded in the late 1970's by lay people in the Scarsdale Adult School archaeology classes taught by the late Kenneth Maas.  Participation quickly expanded to include enthusiastic adults from throughout Westchester and neighboring counties. Then, as now, they were drawn to the Society by the thrill for discovery, a curiosity about early peoples and cultures, the desire to enhance travel experiences, and the pleasure of sharing interests with like minded friends.

ACTIVITIES:

The AIA Westchester Society sponsors a regular schedule of slide lectures based on archaeological research, an active Book Club, and guided visits to museums and events of archaeological interest.  Click the
PROGRAMS page on this web site for a current program schedule.  Click the BOOK CLUB  page on this web site for a list of books we have read in the past and information about our current meeting.
